Toronto, Ontario, June 3, 2013 — Partnering with Impact Mobile, Abbotsford Police Department has introduced a non-emergency text (SMS) service for its citizens to engage with its communications centre in real-time. The text service works with any mobile phone by texting 222973 (abbypd), allowing live, two-way interaction from anywhere in British Columbia.
Abbotsford Police Department (APD) introduced the non-emergency text service in view of the ubiquitous nature of mobile messaging, its ease of use and convenience. Moreover, text services enable accessibility for citizens with speech and hearing disabilities. APD chose Impact Mobile given its experience as the provider of Text-911 emergency services in Canada. Impact Mobile successfully completed the trial phase of Text-911 in 2012, and is currently working to deploy the full production system which will operate to five nines availability.
Wayne Plamondon from Abbotsford Police Department said: “We’re very pleased to launch this solution in partnership with Impact Mobile. We believe that providing this additional medium for the Citizens of Abbotsford to communicate with our Department better serves our community, and is another step in our goal to make Abbotsford the safest City in BC.”
Gary Schwartz, CEO and founder of Impact Mobile, was quoted saying: “We’re excited to partner with APD, and be able to help the citizens of Abbotsford. We’ve always been at the forefront of ground-breaking mobile messaging projects, such as Text-911.” He added “This project leverages our position as a leading mobile services provider in Canada, with our desire to better serve local communities across the country.”
